AbstractAt Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA), a hypersonic rarefied wind tunnel (HRWT) has been developed, and its flow characteristics have been investigated experimentally and numerically. This wind tunnel is capable of producing a 25-mm hypersonic rarefied core flow with a Mach number greater than 10 and a Knudsen number greater than 0.1. However, the temperature of nitrogen gas becomes lower than 50 K in the test section. Hence, in this work we first investigate the effect of N2 condensation in HRWT so as to find out the necessity of a heater activation. Secondly, we discuss development of a measurement system for surface accommodation parameters by measuring the displacement of a pendulous model.
