AbstractVitreous BaTi2O5 (BTO-glass) fabricated by a containerless method shows gigantic dielectric anomaly, epsilon' approximately 10(exp 7), in the crystallization at around 1000 K. The BTO-glass is studied by Raman scattering method in order to reveal an origin of the dielectric anomaly. A gradual and obvious change of Raman spectrum from broad peaks to established sharp peaks is observed in the crystallization process. The mixed-state of microcrystal and glass is concluded to be the origin of the gigantic dielectric anomaly.
