AbstractIn STOL, it is critical to maintain lifting power stably at low speed. For this purpose, jet from the engine flows along the wing surface to create a large uptrend centrifugal force which yields an additional uplift force on the wing. In this research, numerical calculation using the Large Eddy Simulation method is performed to find out about this special characteristic of jet under the influence of inertial forces and turbulence. It is seen that the secondary flow appears within the jet and its vicinity. Pressure gradient normal to the wing surface, which creates the lift force, is increased by the addition of jet. The value of the pressure gradient depends on the radius of curvature of the wing surface and the ratio of the flow velocity within the jet to that outside, while the increase rate depends on the latter alone. It is also observed that the movement direction of the jet center is slightly dislocated from the centrifugal force if the jet is swirling. The distribution of the chordwise component of Coriolis force is asymmetric within the jet, and it is estimated that the fluid speeds up in one half of the jet and slows down in the other half, which causes the jet center to move laterally.
