AbstractTo realize wireless power feeding to Micro Aerial vehicles, the auto-tracking phased array system was developed. This system consists of three sub-systems, transmitting system, tracking system, and receiving system. At the transmitting system, a 5.8GHz beam was radiated from an active phased array antenna. Transmitting power was 5W and the beam divergence angle was 9deg.. At the tracking system, a position of the MAV was detected by a software-retro-directive function using a 2.45GHz pilot signal and its maximum error was alpha(sub rad)=-1.79deg., alpha(sub azi)=-1.97deg.. At the receiving system, a light-weight flexible patch rectenna was developed. The maximum RF-DC conversion efficiency was 58% at the 100Omega road resistance and 63mW input power. With these systems, the demonstration of auto-tracking wireless power transmission is done. The MAV model with a 10 elements rectenna array was circling using a motor and a supporting bar at the altitude of 1500mm and the rotation radius was 237mm. The motor was rotated constantly.
