AbstractAs a solution of increasing power demand and Global warming caused by carbon dioxide, Space Solar Power System(SSPS) is researched and developed. SSPS is a system supplying power generated by power satellite in geostationary orbit to the ground via microwave. The development goal for SSPS is a power supply of 1GW at the beginning of mission of 2030. The power generated with solar cell on power satellite on GEO is transmitted by the power cable to power transmission antenna. The electric power has to be sent at 10kV to decrease the joule heating loss in the electric power cable. When the electric power cable is wired to the surface of the satellite, a high voltage is impressed to the cable covering caused by the power cable contact with the conductor. The high voltage phenomenon on power cable by high voltage applying to power cable for space satellite and insulation performance are not clear, because the power generation voltage of a current space satellite is several 100 volts order.The purposes of this research are investigation of phenomenon by high voltage applying and evaluation of wire insulation.The phenomenon of the power wire for space satellite by a high voltage applying was confirmed. When a high voltage is turned on, the discharge occurred by a high voltage applying, and the wire coating is charged. When a high voltage is turned off, Flashover discharge occurred by Electron charged on surface. The occurrence of the breakdown of wire insulation was confirmed by repetition of on-off of high voltage. The relation between number of repetition of on-off of high voltage until breakdown and high voltage applying speed was confirmed. The relation between number of repetition of on-off of high voltage until breakdown and flashover discharge by high voltage off was confirmed.
