AbstractA series of flight experiments was conducted using the MuPAL-epsilon research helicopter and making ground-level noise measurements. The objective of the experiments was to obtain acoustic data that will contribute to the development and verification of models of helicopter noise. Level, descending, climbing and steady turning flights were flown at various airspeeds, descent angles and main rotor speeds. Tone-corrected perceived noise levels and effective perceived noise levels are calculated and presented in this paper. A sample calculation is performed to estimate the characteristics of helicopter noise at a constant distance, i.e. the attenuation of noise due to distance is eliminated and the noise level is calculated as a function of direction.
