AbstractAfter the failure of the first flight of NEXST-1 (National EXperimental Supersonic Transport-1), the recovery system design was reviewed and improved in order to ensure the success of the second flight trial. We focused on the pilot chute section that operated first in the recovery sequence, because it was the most important to success in the flight trial. Specifically, we carried out development tests of the aerodynamic characteristics and the structural strength of the pilot chute canopy, the pilot chute container and the pilot chute container separation systems. This report describes the development test and the discussions.
