AbstractNowadays, a wireless frequency band is depleted for the spreading of wireless systems such as the mobile phone. Our goal is to reduce essential frequency band by sending both information and power with the same frequency and to reduce the size of Active Integrated Phased Array Antenna, AIPAA. The AIPAA is a wireless transceiver with features as small in size, light in weight and rapid in beam control. Our AIPAA system consists of modulator, demodulator, phase shifters and Active Integrated Antenna, AIA, which is integrated combination of amplifier and antenna. A small, high gain and high power amplifier circuit is essential for AIPAA. Two-stage amplifier in AIPAA was designed and fabricated with GaAs FET (Field Effect Transistor) chip. Its output power is 27 dBm with gain of 23 dB. A phase shifter is also an important component for AIPAA. The 5.8 GHz band digital phase shifter for controlling a beam direction of the AIPAA was designed and fabricated with a LTCC (Low Temperature Co-fired Ceramics) substrate. Its dimension is only 10.0 mm x 13.0 mm x 0.55 mm. The insertion loss of the 2-bit phase shifter was measured to be -4.5 dB to -5.9 dB and its phase error was less than 3 percent. After measuring and adjusting the phases from the sixteen elements of AIA, we searched the accuracy of phase shifter by comparison between simulation and experiment data. The measured main beam direction of the array antennas differs less than three degrees from the computed one. Next, we examined the modulation method for the simultaneous power and information transmissions to reduce those errors by measurement of Bit Error Rate, BER. In this study, we focused on the Frequency Shift Keying, FSK, as one of the suitable modulation methods. The result of experiment shows that BER of AIPAA is affected by an input power of demodulator and modulation depth and is less than the limitation (less than 10(exp -9)) of the measurement system. Finally, we set up the total system of the AIPAA which can vary the angle of beam direction. Under these conditions, the experiment result shows that when a beam direction of the array antennas varied, BER of the AIPAA is less than 10(exp -9) with appropriate adjustment.
