抄録 | Postural control of medaka fish has been studied as a preliminary study of space experiments STS-65 (Space Transportation System-65)/Space Shuttle Columbia. It has been known that ability of postural control is hereditary and dependent on strains of medaka fish, and this ability is associated with visual sense. Thus, this experiment examined visual sense of medaka fish by ability to follow the rotating striped drum under microgravity during parabolic flight. A strain showed notable increase of velocity and looping under microgravity, while another strain showed no looping. However looping was observed in all strains in the darkness under microgravity. This suggests that medaka fish control their posture by visual sense. Ability to follow the rotating striped drum was also examined under various intensity of illumination under 1 G condition. As a result, the strain that showed stable posture control under microgravity could follow under every intensity of illumination, while the strain that showed marked looping under microgravity could not follow in the weak or too intense illumination. To study the heredity, the medaka fish of the strain that have the best ability to control posture by visual sense were paired with another strain, and the ability of the first filial generation was examined. As a result, the ability was almost in the middle of the two strains. |
