AbstractThe behavior of a shock wave emitted from an open end of a shock tube is studied for 2-dimensional cases (where the tube is a channel) and for 3-dinensional cases (where the tube is a circular pipe). Attention is focused on the effects of finite viscosity and heat conductivity. In the present case, the shock wave has a finite thickness and is emitted in a fairly isotropic way. The decay law of the emitted shock, nearly spherical or cylindrical, is numerically investigated.
