AbstractLaser oscillations of rod-type Nd/Cr: YAG ceramics pumped by an arc-metal-halide lamp, which has similar spectrum to the solar light, had beam observed experimentally as a basic technology for space solar power station. The obtained maximum output power was 240 mW with an input lamp power of 640 mW resulting in an optical-optical conversion efficiency of 38 percent. The conversion efficiency was nearly close to the limit of the theoretical one.
