AbstractFor the purpose of preparing basic data for experiments of Marangoni convection in the International Space Station, we carried out measurements of physical properties of silicone oil. In particular, we determined the temperature dependence of the surface tension, and examined the effects of possible solvent contamination and of thermal hysteresis. Also, the temperature dependence of the kinematic viscosity, together with the effect of thermal hysteresis on it, was investigated. These tests confirmed the stability of the physical properties in question.
