AbstractStarting loads reduction technique using a protuberance was investigated in the JAXA 1m by 1m supersonic wind tunnel. A protuberance was set upstream from the model on the upper and lower nozzle wall. As a result, it was found that the shock wave by the protuberance induced a decelerated area around the model and reduced more than 20% of the starting load of normal force at a Mach number of 3.0. This deceleration by the shock wave from the protuberance was confirmed by pressure of the model surface. Furthermore, shock wave strength passing through the model was weakened in this decelerated area.
