We examined the effects of water immersion as a microgravity simulator on beta-1,3:1,4-glucan synthase activity in rice seedlings. Water immersion significantly reduced both amount and molecular weight of beta-1,3:1,4-glucan in the cell walls, stimulating elongation growth of the coleoptiles. The beta-1,3:1,4-glucan synthase activity in the microsome fraction of coleoptiles underwater was decreased to less than 50 percent of that of the control. These results indicate that the growth stimulation underwater is mediated by decrease in activity of beta-1,3:1,4-glucan synthase as well as increase in activity of beta-1,3:1,4-glucan degrading 内容記述 | Beta-1,3:1,4-Glucan is a major cell wall component and responsible for the regulation of elongation growth in rice. We examined the effects of water immersion as a microgravity simulator on beta-1,3:1,4-glucan synthase activity in rice seedlings.
