Neutron spectrum measurement in the energy region of eV with the slowing down time method

Abstract

The Slowing Down Time (SDT) method was investigated as a measuring method of neutron spectrum. A 96 percent B-10 enriched BF3 gas proportional counter was used to detect neutron. Measurements were carried out in three kinds of shielding experimental assemblies, such as iron assembly, SS316 assembly and SS316/water assembly. Time spectra of the B-10(n, alpha) reaction events were measured using pulsed neutrons. Energy scales of these spectra were calibrated by using five resonance filters. Experimentally measured neutron spectra in the assemblies agreed well with those obtained by calculations. Features of SDT method as a measurement technique of neutron spectrum in the energy region of eV were clarified from these results and those of the measurements of the Au-197(n, gamma) reaction rates.

eV領域での中性子スペクトルの測定手段として、減速時間(SDT)法を研究した。中性子の検出には、BF3(96%B-10濃縮)気体比例計数管を用いた。測定は3種の実験用シールドアセンブリー、すなわち、鉄アセンブリー、SS316アセンブリー、SS316/水アセンブリーの中で行った。中性子パルスを用いて、検出器でのB-10(n,α)反応事象の時間スペクトルを測定した。これらのスペクトルのエネルギースケールの較正は、5個の共鳴フィルターを用いて行った。実験の結果、得られた3種のアセンブリーでの中性子スペクトルは、計算により求めたものと良く一致した。これらの結果、およびAu-197(n,γ)の反応速度の測定結果から、eV領域での中性子スペクトル測定法としてのSDT法の特徴が明らかになった。
