| 内容記述 | Ion heating by broadband and coherent waves with relatively small amplitude and frequencies below the ion gyrofrequency is examined. The theoretical results, verified by test particle calculations, show that such waves can heat ions to high energies, and in particular produce the ion conic distributions observed in the earth's magnetosphere. The model utilized differs from other approaches in that neither quasi-linear theory nor stochastic acceleration in a large amplitude wave are used to heat ions. This heating mechanism may be significant in other geophysical and astrophysical environments. |
