抄録 | The BNL-E787 experiment collected data equivalent to 3.2 x 10(exp 12) K(+) decays in 1995 - 1997. One candidate event of the K(+) to pi(+)nu antinu decay was observed in the signal region where the total background level was estimated to be 0.083 +/- 0.019 events. This candidate event survived even when the background rejection was tightened until the background level became 0.0065 events and 33 percent of the acceptance was retained. Based on this one candidate event, the branching ratio was measured to be 1.52 + 3.48/- 1.12 x 10(exp -10) which resulted in the range of a Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa matrix element V(sub td) to be 0.0024 less than absolute value of V(sub td) less than 0.038. |
