抄録 | Growth processes of alkanethiol Self Assembled Monolayers (SAM) on Au(111) have been studied using Thermal Desorption Spectroscopy (TDS) and Scanning Tunneling Microscopy (STM). TDS revealed that both chemisorbed alkyl thiolate and weakly adsorbed dialkyl disulfide dimer coexist in the SAM, and the total amount of dimers changes as a function of the immersion time in the solution. STM showed clear bifurcation into two types of domains corresponding to those seen in TDS. A new SAM growth model proposed in this study will provide novel material systems which show spatiotemporal ordering processes under nonequilibrium open systems. |
