| 内容記述 | The Seasat satellite was launched by the U.S. in June 1978, to demonstrate techniques for, and the utility of, microwave remote sensing of the ocean surface. One of the instruments on board was a scanning multichannel microwave radiometer (SMMR), designed to measure primarily ocean surface temperature, ocean surface wind speed, atmospheric water vapor and cloud liquid water. Global maps of these parameters have been produced, representing 10-day, monthly and mission (90-day) averages of the radiometer measurements. These maps are compared with those derived from conventional surface measurements, and demonstrate the day and night, nearly all-weather capabilities of the microwave measurements. |
