Solar wind velocity near the sun: Results from interplanetary scintillation observations in 1989-1992

Abstract

The solar wind velocity near the sun has been derived from the Interplanetary Scintillation (IPS) observations at two and 8 GHz, which have been carried out in 1989-1992 using two quasars; 3C279 and 3C273B. Results show clearly that the solar wind accelerates between 10 and 80 Rs (Solar Radii), although the radial variation of velocities obtained from 3C273B observations is distorted significantly by the effect due to the coronal hole. It is also found that the hight speed wind become dominant near the sun in recent years, and this fact is attributed to the development of the polar coronal hole in the descending phase of the solar cycle.

1989年から1992年にかけて、クエーサー3C279と3C273Bを使い2GHzと8GHzの惑星間空間のシンチレーション(IPS)観測により、太陽近辺の太陽風の速度を得る事が出来た。その結果、コロナホールの影響による3C279を使用し測定した太陽風径方向の速度のゆがみにもかかわらず、太陽風は太陽から10太陽半径から80太陽半径の間で加速されている事が判明した。また、ここ数年は高速な太陽風は太陽近辺で支配的である事も判明し、これは太陽周期の衰退時間における極付近のコロナホールの発達に因るものである。
