抄録 | X-ray microcalorimeters with high energy resolution and position sensitivity are being developed. In an Ir-TES (Iridium transition edge sensor) of 0.5 mm x 0.5 mm the measured energy resolution was 194 eV (FWHM) at 5.9 keV. It was considered that the limitation in the energy resolution arose from nonuniformity in the thermal diffusion and temperature distribution inside the TES because of the low thermal conductivity of Ir. To improve the thermal property, several methods, such as W-TES, Ir/Au-TES, and a new small pixel TES geometry have been tried. The Ir/Au-TES has achieved 24.0 eV (FWHM) at 5.9 keV. A new type of small pixel geometry of the Ir-TES has been fabricated and has shown an improved energy resolution of 30.8 eV (FWHM), furthermore, the relationship between the rise time and the fall time has indicated the possibility of identifying the pixel position in a single SQUID readout channel, which would be useful for an imaging TES array. |
