Abstract

In 3/1 and 3/2 format multichannel audio systems, the center and surround audio signals play an important role in bringing good sound localization and spaciousness. The center and surround sound effects, however, cannot be displayed on conventional Lissajous monitors which are for use in 2-channel stereophony. A new type of monitor scope for visual monitoring of multichannel audio signals is presented in this paper to serve as a visual aid for production staff to replace conventional Lissajous monitors. The monitor displays directional balance and phase relationships among the signals by visualizing an instantaneous sound intensity vector synthesized by the multichannel audio signals.

3/1と3/2フォーマットのマルチチャネルオーディオシステムにおいて、センタとサラウンドオーディオ信号は良い音像定位とひろがり感をもたらすのに重要な役割を果たすが、センタとサラウンドオーディオ効果は従来の2チャネルステレオ音響で使われていたLissajousモニタでは表示できない。本文では、マルチチャネルオーディオ信号の可視モニタリング用の新型モニタスコープを示した。このモニタは従来のLissajousモニタに替わって制作スタッフの視覚的助けとなる。このモニタは、マルチチャネルオーディオ信号により合成した瞬間音響インテンシティ・ベクトルを可視化することにより、信号間の方向バランスと位相関係を表示する。
