内容記述The paper discusses a number of factors, termed research drivers, which are expected to provide much of the stimulus for research in the subsonic and transonic flight regimes in the coming decade. The research drivers discussed comprise the need for energy efficiency, new and improved facilities, better instrumentation, more capable and efficient computers, theoretical methodology refinements, increased use of optimization techniques, and military requirements. Illustrations of advances in aircraft aerodynamics at subsonic and transonic speeds are presented, along with a discussion of future research opportunities and trends. Particular attention is given to airfoil and basic fluids research designed to reduce skin-friction drag.
