AbstractTurn-on and turn-off switching characteristics of the Static Induction Thyristor (SIThy) are examined, and some promising characteristics and a new pulsed power supply applying the features of SIThys are shown. Switching characteristics of 4 kV SIThys have been compared with 3.3 kV and 4.5 kV IGBTs in order to confirm the efficiencies of SIThys. The remarkable low loss characteristics of SIThys at low temperature as - 180 C have been proposed for the applications of low temperature use electric power supply which works at super high frequencies as MHz-level. The new small pulse power supply that can generate sharp pulse waveforms with high dv/dt rise-up rate by making the most of the gate characteristics of SIThys has been proposed.
