抄録At the end of this decade a new generation of experiments at hadron machines will bring heavy quark physics studies to a new statistical level. Both the general purpose experiments ATLAS and CMS and the purpose-designed B physics experiments LHCb and, perhaps, BTeV, will collect unprecedented samples of B decays, including large samples of B(sub s) decays. In view of the great success of the current asymmetric B factories KEK-B and PEP-2, it is natural to ask whether there is a future for the study of quark physics in e(+)e(-) annihilation at the Upsilon(4S) and Upsilon(5S) in the era of high-statistics hadronic experiments. An asymmetric e(+)e(-) machine of the appropriate luminosity can, in fact, be competitive with, and complementary to, the new hadronic experiments. Studies have shown that the appropriate luminosity to provide a sensitive window on physics beyond the Standard. Model at a level competitive with hadronic experiments is 10(exp 36) cm(exp -2)s(exp -1). The search for new physics beyond the Standard Model in the quark sector involves direct searches for new particles (e.g. squarks), indirect searches for new amplitudes in loop processes by testing Standard Model predictions for rare decay branching fractions and decay distributions, and overconstrained tests of the CKM matrix. A 10(exp 36) cm(exp -2)s(exp -1) asymmetric B Factory can make unique contributions to these studies through its high sensitivity to new physics contributions to loop processes, in a manner complementary to experiments at hadronic machines.
