抄録It is known that thermoluminescence (TL) and optically stimulated luminescence (OSL) are utilized for the archaeological dating. Although red TL (RTL) has been generally observed from the volcanic and/or artificially burnt quartz, the OSL signals from volcanic quartz have been recognized to be extremely weak compared with OSL-intensity from the burnt quartz containing in the archaeological pottery. Thus, the OSL signals of RTL-quartz were expected to enhance by the annealing treatment, so that the sensitivity change of the OSL signal associated with annealing treatment was investigated, especially for the volcanic quartz. The volcanic quartz samples were annealed at 450 C and 700 C for 6 hours and irradiated a constant 42.5 Gy of X-ray. So, both RTL and OSL intensity from unannealed quartz or original quartz were compared with ones from annealed quartz. Consequently, RTL intensity decreased to 30 percent with increasing annealed temperatures. In the case of OSL, conversely, OSL intensity increased by a factor of 20 with annealing treatments.
