Spectroscopic observations of symbiotic stars AG Pegasi, CH Cygni and PU Vulpeculae

Abstract

Recent spectral developments are presented for three symbiotic stars, AG Pegasi, CH Cygni and PU Vulpeculae based on low-dispersion plate material obtained during recent ten to twenty years with the use of the Cassegrain spectrograph of the 91 cm telescope at Okayama. In AG Pegasi, nebular lines which lasted for more than 45 years disappeared in 1986 and 1988. This indicates dissipation of extended nebular regions, but the high excitation condition in the inner region still remains. At the end of the previous activity which started in 1977, CH Cygni showed nebular lines in 1985 through 1986. The star remained almost in a quiescent phase from 1987 through 1989. Then, a new activity seems to have started in 1990. Again, nebular lines are seen in the recent spectrum of CH Cygni. After a prolonged weak-line phase, PU Vulpeculae turned to an emission-line star in 1987. Recent spectra taken after 1991 show a weak but broad emission line of He2 lambda 4,686 as well as fair strengths of nebular lines. Thus the star has become a real symbiotic star.

岡山天体物理観測所の91cm望遠鏡のカセグレンスペクトログラフを用いて、この10?20年間にわたって観測した低分散プレート材に基づくペガサス座AG、白鳥座CHおよび猟犬座PUの3つの共存星に対する最近のスペクトル測定の結果を示した。ペガサス座AGにおいては、45年間以上続いてきた星雲のラインが1986年と1988年に消滅した。このことは星雲の拡大領域が消失したことを示すものであるが、内部領域中の高励起状態は依然として存続している。1977年に始まったこの前の活動の末期に、白鳥座CHは1985年?1986年にかけて星雲ラインを示した。星は1987年?1987年の間ほとんど活動しなかったが、1990年に入ると、新たな活動が始まったように思われた。白鳥座CHの最近のスペクトルには、再び星雲ラインが見られるようになった。猟犬座PUは1987年に放出ライン星になった。1991年以降に観測した最新のスペクトルは、微かな星雲ラインと共に、Hell λ4686の微弱ではあるが幅の広い放出ラインを示している。
