| 抄録 | Two important factors were studied in the measurement of the far field pattern (FFP) of a plastic optical fiber which have so far hindered the precise measurement. The large temporal and spatial fluctuations of the FFP due to the presence of speckle noise and the distortion of the FFP due to a nonuniformity of the exit-end face of the fiber. The origin of the speckle noise is identified and a means to suppress the noise, applying a small periodic vibration to the fiber, is proposed. Some simple examples of nonuniformity are related to the distortions of FFP theoretically and experimentally. Index matching oil applied to the exit-end face is proposed to reduce the adverse effects of the nonuniformity. |
