Quasi-periodic X-ray flares from the class 1 protostar YLW15

Abstract

Strong X-ray emission from a Class 1 protostar YLW15 was detected, using the X-ray satellite ASCA (Advanced Satellite for Cosmology and Astrophysics). This showed a peculiar feature; three intermittent flares. Each flare occurred with the periodicity of about 20 hours and showed an exponential decay of time constant of 30 - 60 ksec. The spectrum of YLW15 is well reproduced by a thin thermal plasma model, and the plasma temperature also showed a fast-rise and a show decay, while the emission measure of the plasma did not show such a feature, expanded at the beginning of the first flare and decayed slowly through all three flares. Thus it is considered that the three flares originated from a same plasma; the plasma produced by the first flare is re-heated quasi periodically.

X線衛星あすか(Advanced Satellite for Cosmology and Astrophysics)を用いてクラス1原始星YLW15からの強いX線放射を検出した。この放射は奇妙な特徴を持っていた。3回の間欠的フレアである。それぞれのフレアは周期約20時間で発生し、時定数30?60キロ秒の指数的減衰を示した。YLW15のスペクトルは光学的に薄い熱的プラズマモデルでよく再現でき、プラズマ温度も急激な上昇とゆっくりした減衰を示した。一方、プラズマの放射量度はそのような特徴を示さず、1回目のフレアの始めに膨張し、全3回のフレアを通じて減衰した。この3回のフレアは同じプラズマから発生したものと考えられる。1回目のフレアで作られたプラズマは準周期的に加熱されている。
