抄録 | TOMBO, the Tombo Observatory for Microlensing and Bursting Objects, is being developed, which monitors a one-steradian section of sky every 10 s. TOMBO consists of two arrays of cameras for distinguishing astronomical transient events from flashes in the earth's atmosphere. Each array has 144 cameras, each with a diameter of 20 cm. Each camera covers a field of view of 5 x 5 degrees. TOMBO is specially developed for the study of transient phenomena in the sky, which include microlensing events, optical counterparts of gamma-ray bursts, supernovae, quasi-stellar objects (QSOs), variable stars, asteroids, comets, and space debris. TOMBO means dragonfly in Japanese, an insect which has a very wide field of view. In this present paper, the concept and scientific targets of TOMBO, as well as a prototype camera and test observations, are described. |
