内容記述 | A new reactor burn-up strategy CANDLE was proposed, where shapes of neutron flux, nuclidedensities and power density distributions remain constant but move to an axial direction with a speedproportional to the power level. The CANDLE reactor shows excellent performance on safety,nonproliferation, waste, and sustainability. In the present paper the fuel cycle performance isintensively studied. If LWRs have produced energy for 40 years and the nuclear energy production ratewill not change in the future, we can produce the energy for more than 2000 years by using theCANDLE reactors with only depleted uranium. It can start its operation without power shape changeby employing enriched uranium as fresh fuels. The problem about fast neutron fluence limit or internalpressure limit can be solved by employing re-cladding before reaching either limit. The amount ofwaste per unit energy generation is one-tenth of light water reactors. |
